A light that's been on for a long time for a simple reason makes it impossible for the computer to alert the driver when a major problem is occurring since there is only one light for all possible faults.

CHECK ENGINE
A check engine light comes on for many reasons. When the light comes on it alerts the driver to a potential problem and when the technician scans the computer it leads them towards a diagnostic direction. Once a diagnostic direction has been taken its up to the technician to test wiring, sensors, individual components and find the root cause of the check engine light, also known as a malfunction indicator lamp.

DIAGNOSTICS
